This is so good. I’m gonna save it for when I’m being a pretentious t**t and expecting my best writing to simply fall out of me onto the page and reveal something so profound and original that it changes the fate of humanity forever. Thanks James!

Gosh I loved this! Thank you - especially about it being worth it to write and get the story out of you rather than letting it sit inside. 🩷 needed that.

4, 8, 12, 14 are about me! Yes, I am on the right path! 😅

And also when I was just starting writing stories I had a very mean friend who almost killed my dream to be a writer 🙈 Now I am still writing and don’t know what happend to this friend 🤷‍♀️

As a painter I have mastered so many of those things! I am fully aware of them now and things are flowing much better now but.. wow. Thank you for those reminders!

My favourite article! Number 21 and 23 sent me 😭😂 this is so great. I look forward to reading one of your novels one day soon! I want to recreate this but from an actor/performer’s perspective!

Nobody’s Watching

Dance with me,

shaking loose the sparks.

Raise the arms,

bend the knees.

Tap, tap—

Swish, shff—

Flick—tick—

5, 6, 7, 8—

That’s the game.

That’s the charge.

Surge with energy—

Now.

Fingers hold stories,

drafting, turning,

pages flowing,

words—

Dancing.

Paper and pencil,

a Charleston,

a West Coast funk.

The lead—a firestarter.

The magic—a mystic.

The letters—a mystery.

A floating Fosse,

a peaking pluck,

a spin—

a spark—

a creation.

It doesn’t matter

where the steps take us.

Let the characters spill out.

The music will make us.

The boogie will take us.

Hiss—zzzt—thwack.

Clap-clap, clap-clap.

Stomp.

What do we have

when we dance

like nobody’s watching,

when we write

like nobody’s watching?

Rustle—shh.

Rustle—creak.

Rustle—flick—pop—rustle—shh.

Art is being made.

Maybe someone will see it.

Maybe not.

The book’s been pre-ordered and I’m eagerly waiting it to come in the mail. Counting down the days truly!

Loved the use of pernicious—seemed to come out of nowhere xD
